    Help! Gremlins in my wiring.

    Sigh. OK, the other day, I lost my turn signals. Checked the fuse, blown. Replaced it, immediately blows again, without the turn signals on. Crap. No big deal, figured I would pull the dash apart when I had the chance and find the bad wire.
    Then today on the way to work, I lost my radio, and most of my cluster. Tac, speedometer are gone, though the battery gauge and fuel gauge appear to be working.

    I assume I have a harness in there somewhere that is shorting out. Anybody have a schematic for the dash wiring so i can try to find the common link for some of this stuff?

    Autozone has quite A few on there website for free. Public Library can be a great source for car manuals/schematics.

      BCM needs a re-solder on a joint or 2

        Yeah, kind of what I was thinking. Where is the BCM in this car? Somewhere under the dash?

          Behind the glove box. Its really not difficult to get to. I had similar problems with my Trans Am. Windows stop working, radio shuts off, ect. Pulled the BCM and re soldered 1 joint and all the problems went away.

          Did it in an hour or 2 while at work between helping customers.

            K, pulled out the BCM. Thanks for the help on location, it WAS really easy to get out. Going to run it through the reflow oven and do the whole board at once. Let you know if it works...

                Well, I can for the next week and a half, so get it to me quick! Changing jobs at the end of next week. I plan to get my own reflow oven eventually for my home projects, but thats a ways down the road.

                On a side note, put the BCM back in, it immediately blew a 15 amp fuse. popped it out, put a new one in. It kind of sparked a bit when I inserted it, and the gauges went haywire for a couple of seconds, even without the key in. After that, seems to be working fine. Note to self. Next time, disconnect the battery when you do something like this...

                  If that doesnt work, I got a Short finder from Mac tools and you hook it into the circuit and use a needle gauge thats included and you can run it over harness with out cutting them all open, kinda slick

                    Nice! I'll let you know. It seems to be working for now, but I haven't really driven it yet. And I have the radio fuse pulled right now. We will see.
