  • Engine Rattle under acceleration

starting a couple weeks ago I noticed some rattling when the engine revs up in my Camaro (02 LS1), it doesn't sound like metal against metal rattle and it only happens under harder acceleration, any thoughts on what it might be? I'm by no means a mechanic, but can't really take the car into the shop because its my only car.

Cat. convertor rattle ? jack it up and tap on the exhaust with a rubber mallet.

I might be able to post a video, if you can hear it. I dont think its rod knock, it sounds lower than that. No lights are on and there are no performance issues. I think I do have cat rattle but that happens at idle too, and that sounds more metallic than this rattle. I'll try and get a video on my drive home

Yeah it sounds like cat then or even a heat shield. Rubber mallets are my best friend when diaging one of them

Just keep in mind a cat rattle is ok for a while, it can break down from bouncing around and potentially plug your exhaust

Awesome, thanks. I'm in Dearborn now actually, but I plan on going up to Woodward quite a bit this summer.

Here's a link to a video I took last night on the highway (mostly for the audio since you can't actually see anything)
