  • Finally finished my shifter install.

I finally got around to finishing my custom B&M shifter install into my Z28. I think it came out pretty damn good considering I've got no money and had to get all Martha Stewart on the boot and sew it myself.

Yes the shift handle is crooked. It fits my hand better and it's not lock tighted on, I just put 1/4" of plastic spacer in there so that it's tight like that.

I used that door trim stuff to create a border around the boot where I had to cut the plastic. Even with the seam on the right it's really not all that noticeable. I couldn't get it in the back, bending that stuff around the corners was a ***** and I couldn't get the end to stay on in the back.

You'd need to eat 3 bowls of that import to equal the power found in just 1 bowl of LS1!

interesting, job well done. WTG with the sewing, lol.

I was wondering though since it is an auto, why does it need to fit your hand just right, therefore making it crooked? Once you're in drive then you are all set anyways.

Although it is an automatic it still serves a purpose. When I get my transgo shift kit installed that makes it shift imediately I'll shift it when I go to the track but for everyday driving it'll just stay in D.

do a run leaving it in drive, and one with shifting you may get a surprise, my cutlass got 2 tenths faster leaving it alone

Yeah that works! I found out myself. I guess theres more line pressure when the trans shifts on its own.

not sure I've been told it's because it shifts exactly at teh right time and you can't get it that close (supposedly there is more line pressure when put in low not sure how true that is)

yea it has been tried before by others with autos shifting manually, but it never helps them. They all just go back to leaving it in D. The computer is always more accurate and quicker than a person. There is no risk of error at all either.

heck even the non computer controlled it is faster (my cutlass was far from having computer controls it doesn't even have a radio)
