  • ls6 intake - what years?

    Hey guys,

my buddy just bought a 2002 ws6 t/a and we wanted to know if it had the ls6 intake. I don't know a ton about the 4th gens but we are learning.

    Thanks!

And another thing.....when I gun the motor, I want the whole world to think it's coming to an end.

yes it does. It may also have the LS6 block. Do searches on the various sites for differences in WS6, Trans Am, Formula, Firehawk to learn more. Sites like LS1.com, ls1tech.com, firehawk.org, here, mfba.org, ssoa and such.

Yep, he's got and it also more than likely the LS6 block which is casting number 12561168. This is located on the back of the motor right below there cylinder head ceck surface on the driver's side. As far as a part number on the intake, there appears to be a couple floating around. Just look for no EGR and no steam cross-overs.

or you could go into your nearest GM dealer and ask the parts department to run the run and it will tell you everything down to every option the car has and when it rolled of the assembly line

All 01 and 02 LS1 motors got the LS6 intake. I've heard conflicting numbers about the LS6 blocks. Some have said all 01's and 02's got it and others said only a certain percentage of each year got them.

rough numbers are 10% of 01's and 25% of 02's.

In the end, as a stock car, it might make a difference. But after all the mods that most of us do, the block isn't going to make too much of a difference.

              nice selling feature though.

oh, and the percentages listed above were for the blocks. I agree with the others in that all 01 and 02's got the LS6 intake.....my company made them both!

True, I hadn't even thought about the perimeter valve covers...I've done a few heads/cam installs and those are definately harder than the center style. I was talking more about performance.

I have a 01 and it has the ls6 intake on it 01 was the first year for the intake and 02 of corse the last on the camaro. From what I was told the ls1 has a doughnut like ring on the block right next to the thermostat. I have a ls1 and as far as preformance I realy haven seen too much proof that the ls6 engine it that much better, but some people swear by them.

Don't confuse an LS6 block with an LS6 motor. The F body only as the block. It still has the LS1 cam and heads in it. The only difference is the bigger windowed openings for better oil pass through.
