  • No Rear Brakes

97' Camaro, 3.8L, Disc rear brakes, ABS
I always knew that the front brakes did most of the work, but with the recent snow, i learned that the rear brakes do absolutely nothing. I slammed on the brakes on ice and the rears did not lock up. They just kept rolling, in neutral, on ice. The line to the rear looks OK (no kinks, etc.) and there is enough pressure to push the caliper pistons when I took them off to make sure they weren't seized.
ABS light is on but it is only for a front sensor. Apparently this isn't uncommon, but I am yet to find an answer.
Also, this is the free Camaro with 383,046 on the odometer ( over 500,000 actual), so cheap options are best.

Just think of it as a line lock

      Have you tried bleeding them?

I always thought 94-97 V6 models had drums back in back. (I could be wrong)
Do you know if was was originally a drum brake car?
Usually the master cylinder is different drum vs disc. I guess I would figure out if F-bodies had different master cylinders depending on the brake set up.

It is a Y87 car, so original equipment is discs

Mike, you are so helpful. I never would have thought to bleed brakes.
It does do a great burnout though...in snow.
