  • Back From the Dead...

I haven't been on in a while. I am like a zombie now. Haha. Working so much overtime when the hurricane hit.

Anyways guess I'll go into what the the winter project is going to be.
Obviously hoping for this don't know what will get done haha.

    • S60 swap with 4.10s
    • New fuel pump and all AN lines and fittings, rerouted.
    • Redesign exhaust system. Tossing around the idea of fender dumps.
    • Convert to Carb and Distributor.
    • If money allows start building engine.

This is some of my goals.

Make sure you talk to Superman09 about that S60. If you don't already have one lined up he can get you the best price!

I am converting because it allows me to get rid of the optispark and fuel injection. I won't have to convert to a LS1 with a new computer. Changing the jets is a lot cheaper than switching injectors. I can tune fuel injection I just don't want it anymore.

Lots of guys out there with opti-sparks going much quicker than you are now or probably will be in the future. And are they really that bad? What a few hundred bucks for a distributor every 5 years or so? Injectors are a one time purchase and really aren't all that expensive when comparing to the long list of modifications it takes to revert to an lt1. Sounds more like you just want to be unique, and I can tell you that if thats the case people are certainly going to thing you're out there when you show them the carb setup on a 12 or 13 second car

I see where he's coming from though.... my opti has been on my car for 9 years now and going on 10 and has seen its fair share of 7000 rpm.. peoples inability to figure out what is wrong with there car is ultimately the scapegoat for the optispark. Granted i will say whoever designed it had there head up there ass by placing it behind the balancer and water pump, but in reality its not that bad. Carb simply makes more power at the end of the day with all things being equal, better fuel atomization... with a carb'd old school distributor lt1 it's basically a sbc with reverse flow cooling and an old school set up. Please put a single plane on that thing lol and get rid of the factory intake while your at it!

Sure it makes a little bit more peak power over fuel injected. For that reason I can see maybe going carb on a max effort drag or race car. But for a street car, you're just going backwards. Carbs are a pain in the ass when conditions change, warming the car up having to use choke and get much worse gas mileage. It just doesn't make sense in my head ESPECIALLY since it already has fuel injection. Its going to cost much more to change over to a carb for what 20hp maybe?

I've owned cars with carbs. I also didn't say anything about the Optispark being bad, I just don't want it.

I can see someone bolting a custom elbow on the end of the plenum and sticking a holley on it......at least the carb wouldn't be under the cowl

Good luck TJ - it's always cool to seem someone doing something different.
