  • help... lt1 crank hub remove/install

I'm putting new front cover gasket on... none of the hub pullers I find have the needed 7/16 bolts - nor does the puller casting have clearance for the big 7/16. Trying to rent @ parts store vs buying one then modifying.

So, I wonder if anyone has a puller that works for this that I could borrow?

And, will need something to re-install... not sure I can find high strenght threaded rod and not wanting to buy a tool kit for it...

    Thanks!

Last time I rented one I went to O'reillys Warning note be sure to check harmonic hub that the 3 bolts are SAE not Metric. I think I rented puller then went to Ace to get 3 bolts the correct lenth.

Autozone and oreilys had 3/8ths bolts, but not 7/16... and the slots too narrow

What did u use to install?

To Install I used the the kit one time and the second time bought a threaded rod (same thread as hub bolt) used a large washer and nut to crank it on. basically thats what remover installer kit do. Recheck with O'reillys I think they had remover for different engine car that bolts were right size. I have done this like 4 times and each time was a little different.

The ones I have don't fit. I suppose I could drag home some from o'reilys and try it...

I've used a 3 jaw and it has worked fairly well. Just found a semi long bolt that threaded into the crank and it was good to go.

Ok, as far as puller, i've got one more place to check tomorow, and if they don't have a puller that works with 7/16... I will rent the std one and just put nuts on the 3/8 bolts behind the flange.

As far as installing, I did find a rental tool that will work... apparently the guy I asked the first time didn't have a clue.

Found a puller that had slots wide enough for 7/16 bolts. Fyi-use grd8 bolt to insert into the crank hole... first go of it, I tried something very weak and almost got it stuck in the crank. Get grd8 for anything you buy in doing this.

the installer that I got was a no go... the threaded part wouldn't reach the crank threads at all. Ended up driving to MidState Bolt to get high strenght threaded rod. ( i have extra now ) I did use the thrust bearing from the kit to help do the job.
