    3.8 Oil Change

    Now that Angie and I are married (only 2 years later... ) and the Firebird is in our garage, figure it's time for me to start taking over maintenance on her Firebird. What weight oil do you guys recommend for the 3.8? Any harm in running 5w30? It's what Clifford takes and what I put in Red Alert last time I did an oil change so I figure if I can run it across all 3 cars then that would be awesome...

    Anyone know what filter #s to use too? Maybe someone has the part # for the filter written down somewhere.

    If your looking to buy oil in bulk or even filters, contact Bri2203, he gets a pretty sweet hook up on Brad Penn oil, can get you a whole case to put up on the shelf in the garage, if all three cars take the same oil then why not?!

      Yeah might have to think about that. I like the ease of being able to go to the local speed shop, Richards Auto, and buying the oil from him but if Brian can get me a good deal on a gallon of oil...

        I recommend using WIX oil filters.
        When I had my 2001 Camaro I remember using Blazer/S10 4.3 oil filters because they were longer. My 3.8 had some sludge- I am not sure if it was common but I used a few products to clean the valvetrain and remove the gunk.

        A 5w30 or 10w30 oil is perfect acceptable. If you were to drive it in the extreme cold I would say run 5w30 but we all know this car rarely sees the sun.

          As you know your 2011 Camaro requires an oil that meets dexos1 specifications. Brad Penn makes a full synthetic 5w30 which meets dexos1 standards and if you buy a case (12) the price is $50.00. Which is $4.50 a quart so it is inexpensive for a full synthetic and its made in the USA.
