  • Changed My o2 Sensors and Spark Plugs

    Huge improvement!

The o2 sensors took all of about 10 minutes to really change, the longest part was dad accidentally cutting through the metal crimp that came with the new o2 sensors and us having to solder the connection instead.

Next was the spark plugs. Let me say... the original spark plugs from '94, WOW were they bad! NO WONDER I had spark retard! Look at the pics below! Holy crap the gap was horrible! The car as a whole idles so much more smoother and doesn't shake so much, and the car has a much more even takeoff now.. power curve straight through, no more flat and then 2nd gear shoot up in speed. Still slow as a regular 3.4L v6, but atleast now it accelerates like a regular 3.4L instead of a 2.0L We didn't change the back two plugs on the passenger side, freaking impossible to get at! We figured changing 4 out of 6 of the plugs was better than nothing and we'll take care of the last two when I buy the spark wires too, that way we don't have to be careful yanking the wire off.

Check out the difference between the old plug and the new!!!!

Umm..how do you NOT change the plugs in 12 years?!?! I think my 94 Bird had about 80K on it when the plugs needed changing and I THOUGHT they were supposed to be the 100K mile platinum plugs. Mine weren't as bad as yours though. It took me a while to do the rear ones. I think one I got from under the car.

Sweet, man that brings back memories, my first car project on the Z was changing spark plugs. Hell I didn't even know what they were or what they did (Well maybe not that bad but close). Man that was a PITA but a good learning experience.

Iv'e never tried it but a Mechanic told me the secret to getting the spark plugs out of a LT-1 camaro is to remove the plastic wheel well and go from in there.
The Chevy Camaro was built with a single purpose in mind which it executes flawlessly...Going very very fast in a straight line until your hair catches on fire.

yeah i have no o2 sensors my car runs in open loop tune.

good job on the plugs! that was the first thing i did to my Ranger (DD) when i got it...can of sea-foam, all new plugs and wires! and an airfilter!!

i've also found it easier to change my plugs everytime i pull my heads

Matt, Sean did a MAF-less tune for you? I was considering going the same way but didn't know if he would do it or not.
