  • another question on 2000 z28 vs SS

what was the differences between the z28 and SS other than the hood in the 2000 camaro (i am mainly interested to know the differences if any in the engine, suspension, and performance specs if there were any i've seen conflicting information on the web about this)? was the SS also considered a z28 and was the SS an upgraded package to the z28?
also as i look to buy this 2000 z28 vert are there any issues which are common to the 2000 z28 that i should look for. it has 50K on it. thanks

the SS is just an added on package by SLP. besides the Hood/Spoiler/Wheels, they should have a 35mm front sway bar, bilstein shocks and A power steering cooler (not sure if the cooler was an SS/WS6 thing, or just an option in general?) Those are the things I can think of off the top of my head, I know there's a lot of more knowledgeable people on this topic around here than I

I believe the hurst was an option for any V8 6 speed. Im not 100% positive on Z28s, but I know I have seen many SS cars with a standard shifter.

Are you sure about the Bilsteins?

My 2000 SS 'vert has the orange decarbons. Mine came with "base" SLP options, which I believe means rims, spoiler, hood. Not sure about my sway bars. My car DOES have a Hurst, but it's listed with a factory RPO code, so I think it's a factory option.

And, yes, you are correct - all 4th gen SS's are Z-28's with an SS package - they all started life as a Z-28.

By the way, the SLP options vary slightly by year. For example, in '01 (I think) and '02 I believe the SLP air lid was standard on SS's. 2000 and prior it may have been an option - mine has the stock lid.

Thanks to all for the help. Now can anyone tell me if there are any common problem areas for the 2000 z28 convertibles that i shold be aware of when I see the car? I have a 93 Trans Am with the LT1 engine and I am aware of the weak spots but I am not aware of the 2000LS1 engine problem areas in camaros. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Being an '00, I would think it should be pretty solid. No rust on the floor pans, etc. It's not a 98, so that's a plus. Maybe a convertible owner can chime in on some 'vert-specific issues.

I am racking my brain, but I haven't really found much wrong with mine, other than minor cosmetic stuff, to share. I'd just say cycle the top a few times, look for fitment issues, bent bows.
