making Jon's kit work for a 3.8 probably wouldn't be as easy as you guys think, why not just throw the 5.3 in it as is and run 10 lbs, it will be a badass DD.

Update,i finally brought the car home from my buddys house, had to store the 94 z28 in place of the 97...If all goes well I will be starting the removal of the engine and trans tomorrow,I have the battery charging for the camera so there will be pictures taken.I decided to keep the 3.8 and have the heads midily ported, install some shortie headers,CAI,....This is just going to be an all around weekend cruiser. Also going to pick up Brians Magnaflow exhaust..I just picked up a pair of rear Bilstein shocks, also goingto be rebuilding the front end..ball joints, control arm bushings, tie rods...fixing the rust issues located by the fuse box,and in front of the driverside rear tire.Gonna flat black the tail panel, also picked up an aluminum drive shaft..then some interior work, recovering the t-top head liner, and a good cleaning of the carpet, seats, and all the plastic. If all goes well I will have it ready for the Dream Cruise..Stay Tuned..and Wish me luck..lol

If you're putting headers on there, I'd consider putting a cam or some high ratio rockers on there. Should be able to pick up a set of ZZP ER modified stockers for fairly cheap - check the sales forums at clubgp.com. I'd also consider an out of the box tune - not sure if they are still in business, but I had DHP (digital horsepower) tune mine with their V1.0 flash - one of the guys was out of Livonia. Those few little things and I think you'd have a nice DD that's reasonably quick.
I had a homebrew CAI along with the ZZP ER rockers and LS6 valve springs (they claim you don't need them - BS - I snapped a stocker) along with ported stock manifolds and 2.5" exhaust piping to stock mufflers and it had decent top end power - a very noticeable difference from stock.

I am just gonna keep it mostly stock, like mentioned,cai,headers,exhaust...I am going to start removing the knocking 3.8 tomorrow and tare it down and inspect what the problem is..I found 2 motors on CL,one is supposed to have 52,000 miles on it,but then in another listing it says 54,000 miles..Found another one that has had new bearings, oil pump, timing chain, comp cam etc...waiting for a response back..the motor in my car was rebuilt within 5000 miles ago,so id ont know who or what went wrong with it to be knocking,I am hoping to just need to re-place the crank, main and rod bearings.Pics will be coming..
