  • Lower Ball Joints

I was setting everything up to paint my calipers yesterday and after getting the car up on jack stands and the wheels off I found my passenger side lower ball joint was completely shot. Which would explain the clunking in the last few days while turning and some excessive vibration over 70 mph. I've almost got the LCA off, just one more bolt when I get home from work. Is the only way to get the new one in is to take it to a shop??

I had to take mine to a shop, unless you have a good press.

You can get a ball joint press from any autoparts store.

Good luck with the auto parts store presses - my dad and I tried those and they sucked. Ended up wasting a bunch of time and ended up having to pay to have it done.

The lower ball joints need to be pressed out and the new ones pressd in...The upper ball joints are held in by rivets, which need to be drilled out, then the new ones bolt in..By removing the control arm,you are now going to need a front end alignment..

If your using the press correctly it shouldn't be too bad. You are going to need a impact gun to run the thing in and out. Maybe this is why you were having problems Brian?

Already have the new one pressed in. Just have to throw the control arm back on.

so you ended up removing the LCA? well. at least mine should be easy to get off since i just had them off a few weeks ago to replace all the bushings.

Yeah, it wasn't too difficult, much easier to get out than back in. Only really hard bolt is the one on the rear bushing.

Come to find out the car has full energy suspension bushings as well. I find more and more things about this car everytime I look at it.
