Update: I put a new ECT sensor in the water pump, and it didn't change anything. So I put my spare ICM in with new coat of dielectric grease, and again didnt change anything. still firing then dying instantly if it fires at all. I am lost now... Everything seems to be intact. When I drove it home that day, it started running horrible before it died, spitting and sputtering and backfiring like crazy then it finally just died.

How did you fix the wiring harness pigtail going to the ECT sensor? Did you solder the wires and coat with liquid electrical tape, or waterproof heat shrink?
Did you pull any of the PCM codes to see if it has anything stored? Monitor the sensors while the car is running with a scantool? See if the PCM is responsive at all?
Monitor the ECT sensor feedback going to the PCM to see if the wiring harness is damaged elsewhere by the belt flying about. the wires may look ok, but be stretched/broken internally elsewhere.
Try re-setting the PCM after you repair all electrical items that were boogered up.

Well it didnt cut through the wires, so I just taped them back up. I haven't ran a scanner on it, and can't monitor it while running because the car simply wont run. If it does start, it dies within a second if that. Idk, i'll figure it out, just have to use some science and start ruling out possibilities until I narrow it down to one.

I just got off the phone with Keith from pcmforless, since he tuned this thing, and he said I most likely fried on of the drivers in the pcm. I guess this can easily happen if you run it out of power. He also said i cant just throw another 96pcm in here because the vats wouldn't allow it as well as some crank sensor issue or something. But can't I just throw a 96 pcm in there and run it?? that would at least rule out the possibility of a fried pcm. I actually have the pcm totally apart in front of me, but obviously nothing is visible. gonna put it back together, run a scanner on it, and see what it says.

Dont know about LT1 land, but the odds of that actually happening overall SUPER slim. Everytime I see someone replace a PCM because its "bad" its ends up not being it.

I'm thinking it's the opti... I got a scan tool and tried to fire it, then it eventually threw a p0372 code, which relates to a timing reference. Upon a google search, "they" say this is usually a sign of the opti going bad. I have 93formulalt1(nick) on his way over and we're gonna put his pcm in her and give it a go (a 96 pcm as well). If that doesn't d0 anything, then it's most likely the distributor. I'm going to check it before i remove it, just need to get a volt meter or scope better yet. I'd kind of like to put a delltech system in it anyway. Screw those junk optis! Biggest flaw Chevy has ever mass produced.

I guess it could be the optispark, but like my dad mentioned earlier in the thread the PCMs are extremely vulnerable when you get funky voltages going on.

well we put nicks pcm in it and it did the exact same thing. So we narrowed it down to the opti. He mentioned that you may have an opti or your dad, if that's so, I'll buy it. I'd like to try a used one first before i drop 400 on a new delco. It would need to be a vented one though. If you have one lemme know. thanks

I don't have one, but dad bought one from Ebay's "Chandler Motorsports" and it was only $90.

So, if its the opti, what's the logic here. Pure coincidence it just happened to die at the same time your belt broke? I'm not saying it isn't the opti, just thinking out loud. Its not like you were beating on it with no belt, why did this thing just randomly give up the ghost?

I know, I hear ya. The fact that I ran it to the point of complete power drainage, I'm thinking that may have caused the opti to fail. A couple people have mentioned that doing that could fry the opti. idk if it can or not. The only other thing is that the belt may have hit a wire that goes to the opti causing it to mess up. But i have been under this thing and checked everything a couple times over. Either way though, it's throwing a timing reference code and referring to the high-resolution signal thingy. What else could that be?!? P0372
