  • How far can an LT1 go?

    How much cylinder wall can be removed safely?
    Will it run much hotter .040 over?

    mine's .040 over and runs at 170*, same as it did before the rebuild

      Same, mine is 0.040 over and I never hit the 180 mark. If memory serves correctly, 0.060 over is the furthest you can go.

        Mine is .040 over and never gets hot.
        97 30th anv Z28 Lt1 Ported Heads and Intake, small Cam, LT's, SLP LM1 w/power flow conversion and cut out, Stalled A4, 3.73, 125 shot or so......... Custom EVI Tune and more to come...... SOLD

          Yes 60 over is far as you can safely go. There is a guy on Tech that has his bored .060 over with a 4.00" crank making it a 414ci LTx.

            .060 has been done, but I've always heard guys say to sonic check the block's cylinder wall thickness before going that far. I've never heard of anyone having problems with .040 but listen to your machinist above all else.
