Everything else works on the gauge cluster except the speedometer. The cluster has been checked and is good. The speedo sensor in the trans is also good. Where else should I be looking for the problem? This baby has 383000 on the odometer, but has thousands more in reality but because the speedo doesn't work, they don't count... and I don't know exactly how fast im going. I want to hit 500,000 on this slomaro.

When I did my engine swap I had the same problem. It was the wiring where it goes over the transmission. If you have a multimeter measure continuity between the sensor and up above the engine.- Brian Meissen

That is what I was afraid to hear. Does anyone have a diagram for this wire, or should I just assume it is straight from the sensor through the harness to the dashsigpic

The signal might first go to the pcm before the cluster-Joel

97 camaro. It is an electronic sensor. Visually, the wires seem fine. They are cased in the plastic wrap the whole way and the wrap looks unmolested.sigpic

maybe someone with hp tuners can scan to see if the pcm is getting a signal-Joel

Edit: nevermind, might have been reading the diagram wrong. Hope these help somehow, I can get any wiring diagram you want if you find you need it.Last edited by birdie2000; June 22nd, 2012, 12:46 PM.

Here's a better diagram showing the VSS wiring. C220 is in the passenger's side kick panel and is a good place to test to help narrow down where the break in the wiring is.

This will definitely help. Thank you.
BTW, my cruise does not work either. Now that I see this diagram, I think they might be related.sigpic

Did a quick check of the wires to make sure there are good connections. Tomorrow I am going to bring out the multimeter. How exactly will I test to see if there is a break in the wire for the speedo? Does the sensor send a signal that can be picked up by the meter, or am I just testing continuity?sigpic

Testing continuity on the two wires between the sensor and the pcm, and on the wire between the speedo and pcm should be a good start.
