  • LT1 rear brakes question

Is the big round thing with the spring needed for proper operation of the brakes? I was under the impression that its only purpose was for the parking brake, just wondering if it affects anything else if removed.

The "big round thing" is just a vibration dampener. The spring loads the lever to pull back when the parking brake is released.

So if all of that is removed, the brakes will still function properly (although without a parking brake), correct?

Yup. Unload the spring and pull it out, remove the nut that holds the lever in place and pull it out, then pull the inner bolt that holds the guide pin. That whole bracket should come off and then you just need that bolt back into the guide pin.

Thanks. It was already removed years ago on the 12-bolt rear-end I have from my race car project, just wanted to make sure they'll still work properly when they finally get used again. Just ripped them out with out thinking twice about it at the time.

Just hope the bleeders aren't stuck. I spent hours and hours and HOURS sandblasting, putting a wire wheel finish, cleaning and painting the abutment brackets, etc. and bolted them up.

Son of a *****. Had to buy new ones
