  • has anyone ever used this guy for a tune?

    http://www.lt1pcmtuning.com/
ive been contemplating doing the cable loan deal he offers. pay a sec. deposit on the cable, he sends you the software and creates a MAP and emails it to you, you upload to your car, drive the car while data logging, send him info back and he tweaks the tune and sends it back, he does this three times to get the tune right. and he is cheap. he is in cincinate (spg?) Ohio.

Did you notice a difference in performance, he is claiming with my basically stock set up ( just a K&N and cat delete and flowmaster) i will see 15-20 HP and 4-5 MPG
the fact he leans out the fuel to increase fuel economy kinda worries me. i dont wanna start burning valves

Stock tunes in todays cars are pretty lean. Lean is OK when you're at partial throttle or cruising, like he said it increases fuel economy. At idle, my tune is set up to stay around 18:1 AFR which is pretty lean, but with no catalytic converter it's OK. I went from a 3.4L v6 to a cammed and stalled LT1 bored .040 over with larger injectors and I maintained the same MPGs thanks to the tune.

So, since my car has the converter gone, i should be ok? I have a set of Pacestetter long tubes to install on the car with a 3" HOOKER exhaust all the way back to go with it, but i also noticed after looking online, they are the ones that DO NOT have the oxygen tubes. what does that mean? i know that they dont have the tubes welded in up in the pipe versus the ones that do, but what does that go to, what will i be eliminating by mounting these headers on my car? and is there anything else i need to do becuase of this? the headers DO however have O2 sensors in each one of the collectors. from what i read about the headers is that you need the headers I have if you want to get rid of the EGR, is this correct? and what is the benefit and will it cause me drivability issues? or is it no big deal? what else would I need to do?

Im sure that tune is OK. But I would just spend the money and do it the right way. Cant tune driveability and stuff like that if your never in the car.

He claims thats why he offers 3 "re-tunes" he has you collect data and log it and email it to him. Then he tweaks the tune and sends it back for further logging. But I'll be the first to admit, I know squat about this stuff. Thats why I'm asking
It isn't about cost, I just don't know of anyone locally to do it any differently.

Its just not the same. If it was, everyone would do it. Its like trying to do anything remotely, if you did it in person you could probably do it quicker and do a better job.

Without seeing the tune you're getting or what the AFR is, I can't really say for sure if it should be OK. It's OK to get rid of the EGR with those headers, as long as it has the o2 sensors in the collectors you're all set. '95 still is OBD1 (with an OBD2 connector under the dash, that's why it's called "OBD1.5") and deleting the EGR will not cause any drivability issues with OBD1 cars, you WILL see a Service Engine Soon light when the PCM tries to trigger the EGR and it realizes there's no EGR sensor in there.

I'm kind of familair with him. On ls1lt1 and other sites, this is the guy they all refer to as "Solomon". They always talk about getting a Solomon tune, and I've never really heard anything bad about him. Not sure about doing the whole cable thing and whatever else, but as far as sending him your PCM and having him tune it, he's pretty reliable... from what I've heard.

thats him. ive exchanged a couple of emails with him to try and figure out if its the real deal or BS. he has alot of reviews claiming he does great work, but so does any other company that posts customer reviews, and they never post the bad ones. it makes me nervous since he dosent have a phone number listed ( claims he only does this on the side an dosent have a "business phone".) id be less skeptical if i could talk to the guy. no way and i sending my PCM to him. the cable loan methods works like this. you pay him 180 for his work + 60 security deposit on the cable, he sends you the cable and the software. he has you hook up to the car, collect information and log data. email it back to him. he creates the initial tune and emails it back to you. you load it into your pcm, drive the car and log more data and email it back to him, he has you do this 3 times, and 3 times he tweaks the tune and emails it back to you. once its finished, you mail him the cable back and he refunds the 60.00 security deposit on the cable.
whats a going price for a used PCM? maybe i could buy a spare and send it to him and just have one tuned and still keep my original (just in case)

The only downside I see is that you probably dont have a wideband so you will be relying on your narrow band o2's. As long as he tells you how to drive, etc when your logging I don't really see a major problem...other than it takes longer and he cant do WOT tuning (with narrow band's).

If you are looking for an actual dyno tune the closest places to Benton Harbor that I know of are Baker Engineering in Nunica or Speed Inc in Chicago.
