I'm very curious to hear what you're thinking. Even my 2.5" duals out the back were more of a pain in the ass than people give them credit for.

I've thought about cutting out the rear seat areas before on my "race" car project, but it was going to be pretty pricey to have it done right with the proper ribbing and such. Might end up being worth it though considering how expensive it is trying to get both pipes over the axle on the passenger side as well as the difficulty with putting real mufflers back there. Bye bye back seats though, which on my street car I'm torn on whether I care.

Youve got me figured out. I do plan on modifying the undercarriage. I havent looked to see how much it will or wont help with getting the pipe over the axle yet. But im doing it anyway for ground clearance.

With a really competent exhaust guy I'm pretty sure you can get 3" over the driver's side axle without touching anything. Worst case scenario have the guy cut/modify the upper PHB on the driver's side for more clearance. I don't like the upper PHB relocation kit because then you have the fix the geometry of the PHB, and it doesn't need to be relocated on that side because you're not trying to get two pipes over the passenger's side.

Yes it is possible to get 3" over the axle as it is, but im planning on cutting stuff up anyway for better ground clearance.

Why not just remove the PHB support? Unless your planing on road racing it like in Joels case I don't think its needed. Lots of straight line guys run without them.

In my particular case I currently want to implement it on my street car that will get driven often and is setup more for handling than straight line performance. On my more race-oriented project that's what I planned to do (assuming the car ever gets completed )

Kooks sells over the axle true duals. I know they aren't cheap, but it can be done. For what its worth, when I was looking for my F body, I preferred the look of the 94-97 front ends to the 98-up ones, but the LS1 motor was the decision maker. By the way, the LT1 name is coming back for the high performance Gen 5 V-8's. They will be 6.2 liters and have direct injection along with fantastic cylinder heads, better than the current LS-3 heads.
When in doubt, Whip it out !

I like how this has changed from a head talk to exhaust setup haha.

                  http://houstonperformancetrucks.com/...h-flow-numbers

Thats where I pulled the head flow numbers from.

Yes there is a lot more for a good head then flow numbers. As Joel said its just a thread saying the stock heads on LT1s are garbage like everyone makes them out to be.

lol, sorry for the hijack, but Joel does have a good point that the intake and exhaust tracts are very important parts of the combo too. The exhaust system is an extension of the cylinder head, literally.

I can already see how this is going to go:
                            (talking to 4th gen owner)
"hey man, what engine you got in dat?"
                            "oh, its just an LT1"
"DAAAAAAAM, thats the engine that comes in the new CamEro and has like 500hp, aint it?"
                            "yea, something like that "
