  • Aftermerket K Member Worthwhile or Not Worth it?

Can I get some opinions on aftermarket k members for our cars?

I have UMI K member, some weight savings. What I like is the extra room for working on motor!

Totally worth it. Lighter, more room for well anything, easier to work on, ect.

Same here with the UMI model, I love it.

As everyone else stated - it's DEFINITELY worth it. It opens up so much room under the engine for access plus I like jacking the car up by the aftermarket Kframe better than the stock one.

              The reason I am asking,

I found a used one for a good price, also the guy wants something I have. So it'd cost me close to nothing.

It is a BMR with LT1 mounts and regular rack.

I just don't know if I trust a used one. The guy is good friends with a well known member on here.

I'd go for it - I don't know of any reason why I wouldn't trust a used one?

I got a used stock one off craigslist, it did not line up at all. Looked to have been in an accident.

I guess I will give it a shot anyways.

Hey John....going to be selling mine....have to go with another one with some "revisions". Black, UMI....and because we live in the same town, I'll kick ya a local discount. Depending on how soon you're looking for one maybe we can work something out!

                    **edit....unless you're LT1

One thing to mention, and this could just be marketing hype. But I remember reading claims that the UMI unit is fine for daily driven cars where other units like those from BMR are really more meant for track cars and won't hold up to daily driving as well. UMI also mentions something along those lines on their site.

"Our dual tube center section adds increased strength over the competitors’ design, making this item far more superior and able to handle every day stress and abuse."

This is what I heard about the BMR unit as well, and with a used one who knows? be safe

I guess I don't have to worry about it. The guy sold it from under me. Did not tell me untill today... 5 minutes before I was going to meet him..

Anyways, maybe I'll invest in a UMI roadrace one someday.
