electric water pump?

the main reason to get it would be to just take that much more fiction off the motor... the less the motor has to do the more power you get, the longer it will last and you will gain some mpg... im sure you could rig it up to a temp relay switch thats what i have on my fans just a behind the counter part from autozone like 30 bucks... keeps my electric fans running unless the car is below 180 i was thinking about getting the water pump to match it.. as of right now i havent had my car go above 180 except when i lost fluid..

I've got an empty housing I've been polishing up. It was a pain to press out the old junk but not to bad if you got the right tools. Alot of guys on fbody.com are running them and havent heard any bad reviews yet. I've had mechanical pumps fail while driving before, you just have to be that guy that checks his guages while driving. I glance at all my gauges every minute max. Don't be that person that look's at the guage and says " hey my temp is really high I think I can drive 15 more miles and have someone look at it at home." I know alot of people that have done that. Most of which are people that know nothing about cars other than they need gas and sometimes oil when the valves are clicking. Sounds like you take care of your care pretty well and will take the correct precautions. I'm going to go the electric route here soon. I'm trying to find an electrical person to fab me up somthing that will blink a light or something if the amp draw from the motor changes to much. An example would be the motor burning out and drawing less amps. I will also have a toggle switch to run the motor at the track with the engine off. This is nice, but I also have the same set up for my fans and it will kill the battery really quick.

I was even told that alot of newer BMW's have electric pumps from the factory.

I've heard 5-9 at the wheels is common. However you probably see some of that gain from the cooler temps. Even with a 160 degree T-stat and TB bypass the extra water flowing at lower rpms will keep your temps alot cooler. Let us know what you get. If you need help pressing out the housing let me know. I've got a press that works better than a B.F.H.

Your not going to gain all that energy from not having to drive a mechanical pump. The energy has to come from somewhere, read: added load on the alternator. I think electric is just more efficient.

im probably gonna put this on the backburner until i do a cam swap. but thanks for the info everybody, im definitely gonna get one eventually.
