!995 Z28 LS1 Oil leak...

I have a pretty good oil leak on my LS1 Z28. From what I can see it looks to be coming from somewere near the front of the engine around the timing chain cover as it runs down that way. Anything around there that could be a common location for a leak?

you prob hit it, timing chain cover is leaking. bad gasket id guess.

ok just to make this clear.. is the car a 1995 with an LS1 swap or is it a 1995 with the stock motor and is actually an LT1

I think the problem is that you have a 1995 Camaro with a 5.4l LS1.

Im pretty sure His car is a 1995 with a ls1 swap just like mine.

EDIT: nvm, thought this was someone else. Who knows what engine this car has.

I was told when I bought it that it was the LS1 motor same as the vett's of this year. Its a 1995 Z28, how could I tell in fact what motor I have as I thought LS1 was stock in the Z28's?

The 93-97's had the LT1, the 98-02's had the LS1.

Its a lt1, 93-97 z28's Have lt1's. 98-02's have ls1's. Corvettes 92-96 Have lt1's. Also, its a 5.7 liter.

Know the motor had a cam put in it was thinking the gasket may of been installed wrong or the bolts may not be tight but I have not looked at it too much yet. Was just wondering if there could be anything else up that that could leak. Where is the oil sending unit located on these motors?

The sending unit on a 1995 is behind the intake manifold on the drivers side.

Ok so I should be able to eliminate that as the cause as I can see it seeping from the front of the motor somewhere. Guess would be timing chain, going to take it apart this week to see if I can find out where its coming from. Thanks guys for the info and for clearing up my motor issue for me.

Front wall of the intake can leak. Some use gaskets but RTV is a better choice

Common source of oil leaks in the front of a LT1 are: 1. intake manifold where it meets the block, Use HIGH TEMP RTV to seal. 2. timing cover gasket. 3. 2 seals in front of timing cover where crank and optidrive come through timing cover. You should be able to narrow down the leak by how high up the block it starts leaking.

Going to agree with probably the timing cover, especially if a cam has been installed.

The corvettes of the same year in the fourth gens have commonly had the same engine as the fbody, though I think they usually got it a year earlier than the fbody did. Your LT1 is still 5.7L like the LS1, but is a completely different engine. Depending on what cam you have, you're now probably making as much horsepower as a stock LS1.

Cool thanks again, got the cam info at home ill look it up and get back with you guys let you know what I got. I also found another whole intake and BBK throttle body in the trunk of the car when I got it home. Would like to know if the intake is another stock one or aftermarket. Is there a part number on those somewhere where I could look up and see what I have?
