Concur - I always thought LT1 M6s were 3.42. The VIN check would be your best bet. Or the previous owner for whatever reason installed a v6 cluster in the car.- Brian Meissen

Gears do not matter for speedo to my knowledge. Only if it didnt come with Z rated tires would you get the 110 speedo.Last edited by JoeliusZ28; January 30th, 2012, 11:31 AM.-Joel

This is true. Some Formulas also had 110mph speedos.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostGears do not matter for speedo to my knowledge. Only if it didnt come with Z rated tires would you get the 110 speedo.sigpic

Digital speedometer was a mid year introduction. you could get a 97 with both rollover and digital. The rollover ones would be the rare style for 97. Its something interesting to look for on a 30th car to narrow down the production dateOriginally posted by sman View PostThe LT1 cars have the roll over ODO until 97 dont they? If thats the case and cluster was swapped I wonder what the odds of the PO having the mileage corrected on the replacement are.......

Yes it's an m6 and I honestly have no idea why it would have the v6 cluster.. Even if it did at one point have the 2 piece drive shaft it doesn't any more, the entire drive train is all rebuilt and from a totaled LS1 car that the guy before me had in his garage.1994 Z28 A4 Leather, Ttops, Angel Eyes, Flowmaster 40 series *Sold*

Checked the vin and the 8 digit is in fact a P which means it was originally an LT1. Maybe it was indeed put in there because of issues with the oem cluster and it was just easier/ cheaper for him to install one off a v6... maybe1994 Z28 A4 Leather, Ttops, Angel Eyes, Flowmaster 40 series *Sold*

Did you read the rest of the comments in this thread? Its probably stock. There is an rpo code that indicates which tires came on it. Confirming the original tires would tell you if its an original cluster or not.Originally posted by CODFATHER View PostChecked the vin and the 8 digit is in fact a P which means it was originally an LT1. It would only have a 2.97 M29 T56 if it was a 93 (or a M28 with a 3.36 first gear), as that was the only year they were offered. Would have been a 3.23 rear axle also if it was a M29, 3.42 was with the 94-97 MN6 T56 which is your standard 2.66 ratio first gear T56 that everyone knows and loves. The M29 had a slightly lower torque rating as well.
And yes, there were 110mph speedos in V8 cars, particulary the Formulas IIRC. Although, I thought they also only offered that in 93 but it could have spilled into 94 too.

I Didn't read if anyone posted the correct answer yet. But its cause your car didn't come with Z rated tires. My 1995 was the same way until It was swapped for a 150mph cluster.
EDIT:
Thanks Joel ya beat me to it.
And you are also correct about the 97 clusters. I have seen one 97 with a mechanical odometer. Its rare indeed.Last edited by Curt_irocz; January 30th, 2012, 05:24 PM.
