  • Noisy Window..Lame

Wonder if anyone can help me here...I replaced my driver side window motor about 2 months ago and it worked great for a while.....then about a week ago when I went to roll it down it went down at normal speed but made really loud clanking/grinding noise...it did that for about a day or two...and stopped for about a week and now its back....anyone know whats going on?? Thought I ask on here before I took the door panel off and all that lame stuff.

Is one of the plastic pulleys broke in the window mechanism? When I had to replace the one in my Fiancee's Alero it was a plastic pulley that broke and the window wouldn't work. Had to replace the whole motor/window lift mechanism. I haven't pulled the door panels on a 4th gen to know what it looks like.

first up... let's see some pics of that 99 SS

second, best bet is to just take the door panel off, which you obviously know how to do. It could be a # of things, from the adjustable bumpers to the weather strips (Mine were making noise when they got sap on them... ewww) to the tracks/etc to the motor...

Let us know what the problem/solution is!

a lot of clunking would lead me to believe that it's the window's tracking that is causing the issues. It would explain the loud clunking noise... my driver's side window track broke and the window would clink around inside the shell when I'd hit the brakes or go from a stop.

I agree, it could be a number of things. I think you should take off the panel and make sure the window isn't coming of track,if not then start looking at all the other possibilities. Good luck

it's possible that when you replaced the assembly, you used the long style rivets/ "mono-bolts" instead of the short ones and they were hitting the gear behind them. when i had one replaced at a local body shop the idiot that did it had done that...he also used aluminum rivets to hold the motor on the assembly, instead of the hardened bolts they come with, and about 1/2 year later my window fell out of the track....they fixed it all correctly for free which was good...
