  • Clutch Issue!!

Just installed a new SPEC Clutch Stage 1 for my 1994 z28 Camaro. I had a heck of a time getting it in and finally realized that the slave cylinder pushrod was bent like crazy. I went a got a new slave cylinder rod from a parts store and it went in just fine. The only issue is.. every gear goes in hard and first takes 2-3 tries! Also.. in order to get the car into reverse, the car has to be turned off and I have to hold in in place and then start it and it stays in. I have no idea why it's doing this and it's a real pain and hopefully someone knows what is happening. Almost like the clutch isn't disengaging all the way. It shifts alright after 1st but it's a little tight, but down shifting from 6th to 4th or 5th is a real pain.
    Please Help!

Sounds like air in the line.

    Used to own a Firebird.

put in 1st on level ground
clutch in and rev it with foot off brake. does the car move?
either there is air or you may need an adjustable pivot

I just had this same problem on my car last weekend when I put my t56 in. It would NOT bleed!! Take the slave cylinder back off and make sure your resoivir is full. When you loosen the bolts the slave cylinder will draw the fluid in. Then try pushing the rod in it will be stiff as shit. Then tighten it back up on there. It will prolly be so stiff the clutch won't engage at all. So you will prolly have to crack the bleeder and let some fluid out. Let me know if this helps. This is what I had to do but now I got amazing pedal!

Awesome thanks for the help! I'm going to try it out as soon as it gets light out. I heard these things were extremely hard to bleed out since they don't have a manual bleeder. Hopefully this fixes it. So cracking the bleeder inside won't hurt anything in the long run? And to answer your question 1BADAIR, it doesn't move when I rev it with the clutch pedal down but when I pop the clutch to do a light take off it pulls great.

I use a mighty van to bleed mine. used a larger O ring and got a good seal on the top of the reservoir. Pumped to almost 30 psi (high as I could) removed the slave and moved it around under the car. I slowly pushed the slave push rod in and then quickly moved the push rod in and out a small amount. I did this several times while moving the slave around at different angles getting all bubbles loose. This worked well and I had no more real problems due to air. I still wound up taking the master apart and doing the drill mod also making the master rod adjustable. I think this was only due to me installing the t56 into an 82 camaro that it wasn't designed for. Short answer, do the mighty vac idea. It worked both before and after my rebuild of the master. Good because, if it is just air, you can get it out without taking apart the hydraulic system. Good luck. let me know if I can answer any other specifics.

if you did the rev test and your car doesnt move, your clutch is disengaging fully. i agree with air in the line. i used a mighty vac when i bled mine out, but i wasnt able to get ALL of the air out. i bled it the old fashion way and i think i still have a little air in it. good luck!

if u fix it and reverse still wont go in... t56 has common issue with reverse. sometimes i hold clutch in put it in first gear and go to reverse sometimes.. may work if u do that..
