  • anyone ever wondered how to prime a ls1 oiling system?

After doing many searches/looking at oil system schematics I discovered this. I had to tap a fitting into this piece to get oil back to my turbo nut I don't see any reason you couldn't drill/tap a hole in this and plug it after. Just use a fluid transfer pump until you have 5qrts in and oil is flowing from the pushrods.

Hope this helps somebody. Its not absolutely necessary I have never primes my ls motor in the past but it couldn't hurt to have oil pumped through on 1st startup

Don't mind the dirty part either I will take care of it before final assembly.

Good idea, Ive always just ran it over with the starter with the injectors and coil packs unhooked until I see the gauge showing some pressure.

theres actually a threaded plug on the driver side front portion of the block that you can prime it

I figured that out after the fact lol. I thought this was pretty easy though I could have done it under the car if I had to here. The alternator covers the plug on the front.

if built with assemble lube, cranking it til you see pressure is actually worse than just starting the car

Most people do it that way without problems. I just didn't want to take the chance with this engine.
