  • weird LT1 starting problem. HELP!

    alright, mystery solving time!

recently ive noticed that sometimes when i start my car (1995 LT1 camaro), it will rev up like normal, struggle to idle and then just die. but if i go to start it up again right after, its fine. however, most of the time it starts no problem.

one of my heatercore hose ripped recently and spit coolant everywhere so im wondering if some got on the distributer (which was replaced last year). but it runs fine and doesn't seem to be missing so idk. could it be my MAF? or maybe its a fuel problem? but again, it runs smoothly on the road.

    THOUGHTS?!

MAF, air filter, and dirty throttle body is where I would start.

The opti gets blamed for a lot of crap that it may not be responsible for.

Sounds like more of an IAC or TPS. There is an easy check for the MAF - unplug it while the engine is running ( it'll set a code in your PCM, though) The engine may stumble when you first unplug it, but then the idle should rise & level out a couple hundred RPM's above stock. If there is no change, then you need a MAF.

Might even be your fuel pump or filter.

Check you fuel pressure, try turning key on and listen for pump to run, my fuel pump would turn on with second try before it died.

take your iac out and spray just the end of it (the part with the spring) with electric parts cleaner and a toothbrush to get all the gunk off it. if its all grimed up it cant do its job. make sure you let it dry all the way before you put it back in and start the car.
