  • Throttle Body and SLP CAI issues

So I was going to install my decorative throttle body plate and my SLP CAI intake. Should be a 15-minute job, right? Wrong

First issue: I removed the stock throttle body plate, and figured we would just go get another gasket at AutoZone, but they didn't have it. So when I figured screw it and put the old one back on, it had somehow stretched itself over the course of four hours. It's now way too large to fit over the opening, so now I definitely need a new one. I found these real quick:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Camar...item5643b3aaa7

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LT1-T...item588dae0b74

    Which one should I use?

Second: I bought a throttle body airfoil, but that install isn't seeming very easy either. If you look at the picture, I'm holding the airfoil in place where it's supposed to be:

First of all, there's a bolt that came with it, and there's a hole where the bolt is supposed to go, but there's no hole in the throttle body to bolt the airfoil to. How does it go in? Also, when the airfoil is in place, air is no longer allowed to go into the top portion of the throttle body, where there's a vent hose that goes to the passenger-side valve cover. Will it make any difference if that's covered up?

My next issue came when I was trying to install my SLP Cold Air Intake. What do you guys use to connect the MAF housing to the tubes? the diameter of the housing is smaller than the diameter of the rest of the intake.

Answers to any of these questions ASAP would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A question I have is how necessary is the gasket underneath the throttle body plate?....I just got a new one and the gasket was literally shot.

the throttle body air foil should come with 1 Bolt, 1 Square Nut 1 gasket and 1 air foil

If its missing the square nut your stuck, it must go in the hole above the throttle body, just drop it in place.
As for the gasket, i just used rtv, it works better then the cheapy paper gaskets anyhow.

and dont worry about the air being blocked, trust me it can still get plenty of air

pretty much just stops dirt and whatever from getting in, why theres a removable plate on this throttle body on lt1's who knows, but it sure is nice looking with a aftermarket plate lol

crap, I don't have that nut. I guess that's what I get for buying a used one. Any idea where maybe I could get one?

Now what about the SLP Cold Air Intake thing? Calling all guys who have them, what did you use to connect the main tube to the MAF housing?

Are you talking about the two tube SLP intake? My MAF was smaller so I wrapped some rubber seal around it. The stuff I used was actually meant to seal cracks in PVC pipes by wrapping it around the pipe, but it worked decently.

yeah the two-tube SLP CAI. I was also told a 3.5"-3" pipe reducer will do the trick. Meissen, could you post a picture of your setup?

Yessir -- I'll go out and take pics of the MAF and depending on how much I have to do I might take the airfoil apart too so I can show you a pic of the nut. Give me a few minutes.

Snap, I didn't remember the nut and I was just picturing a square nut. This ain't something you can go buy at the local ACE Hardware But I guess really as long as you use any nut that the bolt will thread into, with a steady hand and some needle nose pliers you could probably get it to work while holding a nut big enough to hold the airfoil in place.

Here's the pic of the maf. It's just a rubberized tape that is wrapped around the maf and it slides into the CAI.
                maf.jpg

Here's the gasket that came with the throttle body plate:
                airfoil 1.jpg

And here's pics of the nut and how it goes into the intake:
                airfoil 2.jpg
                airfoil 3.jpg
                airfoil 4.jpg

Edit: Fack, I just realized I put the nut in backwards when I put it back together. I glanced at my iphone at the pic I took but I forgot when I took the pic it had flipped it so when I put it back together I had the flat side facing away from the airfoil. Oh well, it still bolted together...

Edit edit: The pic inside the throttle body under the plate is untouched, that's how clean it was ... was kinda impressed, expected to see a lot more oil in that spot. The gunk that's in there is how it was when I installed the throttle body plate back when I did the engine swap 2 years ago.

If I could hit the "Thanks" button 20 times I would. I called TPiS and they're sending me a new nut, so I think I'll be set with that. Thanks again!

Sweet! I didn't realize you'd be able to order just the nut, very good news to hear, that will make it a lot easier. You just lucked out that I happened to have the throttle body and MAF sitting aside from my car being down

I will take a picture of my GMPP CAI when I take it out tommorrow. The GM and SLP CAIs are basically the same thing
