  • Exhaust help

On my ls1 I have an extreme cam, longtube headers, cai, and I'm running flowmaster super10s. Right now I have a very short exhaust it is only about a foot of pipe after the header then the muffler then its just dumped to the ground, people keep telling me im probably losing hp and that I should run the pipes out the back. So am I really losing noticeable hp?

what you need to be concerned about is oxygen entering the system and throwing off the oxygen sensor reading which will cause your PCM to over compensate the mixture. With just a single chamber muffler behind the sensor id say its definitely possible that you could be messing with that reading, although probably not much.

What Joel said. If outside air reaching is your o2 sensors it will cause the computer to read a lean condition and inrichten the air/fuel mixture to compensate.

Flow potential of your exhaust can be broken down very simply.
        1. Tube diameter
        2. amount of bends and their radius (more bends and tighter bends = less flow)
        3. Restrictions (Muffler, Catalytic Converter, ect.)

So I wouldn't jump to any conclusions based on what people say, put it on the dyno and do some testing.

You need an x pipe, and most people running true duals run them to just infront of the rear axle. Do those two things and you will almost the best flowing 4th gen exhaust.

you prolly have no ground clearence as well right now, id say move the mufflers back if you want dumps put em at the axle and throw a x pipe up front.

Thanks for all the input everyone, and no I don't have any ground clearance but I don't mind

If your not letting fresh oxygen at those O2s your probably not leaving any power on the table with an exhaust system that free flowing.
