  • Question on racing seats, or more specifically the Racing seatbelts

For the guys out there that have gone to a 3,4 or 5 point harness. Do you have to get a bar or cage to attach the harness to? Or is their another way to connect it?

I was considering getting the seats from 6le's site as part of my black interior swap and was considering going to harnesses instead of trying to track down all the bits for black seat belts.

Anyone got an answer or suggestion?

technically yes you could make them work without a roll bar or cage. is it recommended no.. they are much safer with a bar or cage in there due to the angle at which they mount. they are supposed to be from horizontal to -20 degree's any more and you increase the risk of spinal compression in the case of an accident.

let me ask you this.. do you actually need the harnesses? i mean for track requirements? if no then i wouldnt buy them and use them only without having the stock seat belts in there too. i took mine out on my car and wish i had the stockers just for street driving since its a giant pain in the ass with just the harnesses. you cant move around, you cant turn around and look in the back, can;t reach across the car, your pretty much stuck in one spot and thats it. its kind of a pain int he ass.. if im just gong for a quick short cruise hald the time i dont even use them just kinda throw it over my shoulder so it looks like it. yes i know thats bad and it doesnt happen very often but its a pain sometimes..

    hope that helps

Sean makes a very valid point but 6le used to make a harness bar that solved that problem and i think i bought the last one. i bought one exactly one week ago, emailed him yesterday to see the status or my order, he emailed back and said that it was still being fabbed up he needed to get tubbing and it should be shipped next week. i would email him and ask if he would make one more. it cost me $300 shipped to my door. and i plan on retaining the stock seat belts too because like Sean said, harnesses arnt the best thing at all for daily driving or cruising. i got mine because i plan to autocross and yea $300 might be alot but in cost effectivness to a $400 wolfe cage, then another $180 to freight ship and then $600 in welding i think i did ok. esp for what my car is.

only use these if you need them. I have them in my vette attached to a harness bar and sub mounts. I can retain my stock belts which is awesome. I flip the shoulder belts back through the seat holes and hide behind the seats and unclip my lap and sub belts and remove when not at the track. These belts secure you completely in the seat, literally can barely move! Forget turning your head to look out your rear windows, mirrors are your only choice! I would HATE to use these all the time and only use mine at the track!

hmm, I might be able to duplicate that design later on if 6LE is getting out of the business.

I wonder why. That goes against his very mission statement on the front page of his website

I was just on the site a few days ago and the product was still up there, I would post the link but the site seems to be down.

That does help, Honestly I have no true need for harnesses and the bar required (again looking at 6le's site) looks like it makes the rear seat useless..well more useless, and I see too many issues with making the camaro a two seater. Now the million dollar question is where do I get the belt assemblies without spending a small fortune? I could try the pick and pull by my house, I dont think they absolutely have to be out of an F-body do they?

I really do think 6le has the best design, I just dont know how much it cramps up the rear seat.
