  • Dart 225 heads

I have the opportunity to trade some work for a brand new set of Dart 225 heads. I find many threads saying these are decent heads but need to be cleaned up to make good power. But that seems like that is true for any "as cast" heads. Anyone have these heads and what kind of numbers do they put down?

    Would be going on a A4 '00 z28
    Bolt-ons
    3600 stall
223/232 .610/.617 112LSA (may swap out if i get these heads to somthing that may match better)
    102mm intake and tb

    shooting for ~430 rwhp

    2000 Z28 - Cammed/Stalled/Intake - Collision With a Tree Mod - Totaled
2005 Grand Prix GXP - Sold
    2000 SS - Sold
2011 Ford Taurus limited - Time for a practical car for a bit

I don't know much about these heads, but it seems to me that the "as cast" heads are VERY close in flow numbers to the CNC'd heads. The CNC heads are more consistent cylinder to cylinder flow wise.
When in doubt, Whip it out !

I've heard they can be good heads if setup properly. I know someone that works at Dart and might be able to get you a hook up on hand porting if your interested.

I run the CNC pro 1's with some hand work done after. I know many people running them as cast as well. They are a good set of heads as cast dont listen to the people on LS1 tech if you go on that site. Most of them are kids that look at flow numbers and are biased to AFR anyways because they are marketed well. Not because any of them actually run them.

You will be more than happy with the Dart's as cast. (especially getting a deal on them) They are designed on a wet flow bench just because they do not flow as much as other heads on paper does not mean they are not designed to make power. If you want more out of them you always have more power on the table down the road if you get them ported.

You should be able to acheive 430 whp with your setup. However I have to suggest you call Alan Futral for a custom cam. Dart told me to call him for the best matched cam for my heads. He works closley with Dart products and makes billet core actually custom profile cam motion cams. (not just specs a "custom" size and orders it from Comp using their shelf lobes to the "specd" size like other places). You will get a good match for your heads from him. (plan on buying a really good set of valvesprings though)
