AFR says to use xxxxxxxx GM gasket or xxxx felpro gasket with thier cylinder head. But than goes on to say that you should NOT port your intake using those gaskets cause they dont exactally line up with the ports on the AFR cylinder head. What gives, am I missing something? So what gasket would I base my intake manifold porting on. Cause I have a grinder, a compressor and mad grinding skills, lol. Any input is appreciated. Eric L

They say to use those gaskets, but than go onto say that they dont exactally line up with the ports. Thats the confusing part. It works to seal them together, but not to port with? Besides, im getting the inkling to do something creative. Expieramenting with a single plane or something. Im gettin that home brewed urge. Are people using an old style gen 1 sbc vic intake to do it, or a vortec victor? I know the holes have to be redrilled, but what intake are they starting with? Eric L

I never had any luck with LT 1 intake gaskets. I always used Fel Pro 1205 or 1206, depending on the head port size. You have to make a couple new holes for intake bolts, but I never had any trouble with them sealing & the ports lined up well with various heads. Use a few dabs of 3M weatherstrip adhesive to stick the gasket & line it up. Trim the ports with a sharpe razor blade knife. You can them transfer the gasket & have an awesome porting stencil.sigpic

I did notice that the LT1 specific intake gasket rides a little to high on the head and blocks the port slightly. The intake could be ported mostly on the outside edges of the ports and a little on the top. Than trim the bottom of the gasket to match the port. Eric L
