  • Harness Bar 98-02 Camaro/Firebird

    Ok guys,

I am looking at buying/building a harness bar for my car. I am on the fence about putting a cage in my car because I really don't want to. I am looking at getting racing seats with harnesses but obviously without something to mount the harnesses to I can't. I want to hear opinions etc. Here are a couple of examples. I am thinking about modifying the bar so it has two runners that go up to the front seat belt mounts as well for more structure/stability.

I run a harness bar in my vette and love it. It mounts to the sides where the seat belt retractors mount and then has a bar on each side running down behind the seat to the rear outer seat bolts!

Wow - I love 6LE's design. Very sad to see in his post that he's winding his shop down.

I like the complete round tube one. Im not a big fan of the round and square one, looks kinda funny to me. But that round tube one is slick. Eric L

Agreed the round tube one looks a lot better. The other one looks like the guy didn't know how to bend round tube at different angles and directions. The only down fall to this is you turn the car into a 2 seater and I would rather get a vette if I wanted a true two seater.

Harness bars are nice but Im just going cage. The rigidity is a good thing SFCs arent enough to keep my quarters straight.

Yeah but when you're at the point of needing a harness, would you really have anyone in the backseat anyway?

or if your like me and would have to replace floor pans to put in a cage. this is more cost effective.

Yeah if you are fast enough that you need a a harness you most likely need a cage and at that point if you add up the money you put into the Camaro to get that fast you could likely buy a used Vette. I got a Camaro to have a fun quick car that is paid off (not fast) to drive yet still throw the family in the car to go to cruises and if it breaks then it sits tell I either feel like fixing it or have the money to do so. Yeah the family thing happens as you get into your 30s. LOL If it was just myself and the wife I would have bought a used vette.

I've had a few bikes which is what took me away from building cars for a while and bang for buck you can't beat a 10000.00 bike that runs a low 10second 1/4 mile all day which is about 5000 to 10000 less then what it takes to go that fast in a car.

To each their own I guess. I would have bought a vette if I could have afforded it but alas I can't. But my z does everything that I want so I don't need the vette.
