  • Aluminum Driveshaft

    Hello,

I'm in the market for a new aluminum DS since I have some vibration at 80mph+ speeds.

    Has anyone tried shaftmasters.com?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Was that a stock LS1 DS?
I'm looking for better than stock u-joints and something that will not break as easily (my car is practically unmodded). Thanks

I've run an Inland Empire for 3 years and I've had no problems. Down side is they're not cheap ('Bout $400 through Summit nowdays).

You will be just fine running an LS1 aluminum driveshaft. The picture you see above is what happens when you launch a car at 6500rpm on nitrous, with slicks lol.

it was only 4000 and with mt et streets lol but yeah he should be fine with a normal ls1 driveshaft.

                Main specs:

                - Neapco "Performance Dynamics" ujoints (non-
greasable American universal joints - maintenance free)
                - 3" Diameter X .125" wall thickness Tubing 6061-T6 Aluminum
                - Full length internal sound deadener (poly-foam) to help reduce NVH (some LS1 DS use some kind of cardboard)
                - High Speed Balanced as a complete assembly with trans yoke attached before balancing

For less than $300 it seems like a good deal... I've searched on other forums and they seem to make good quality driveshafts (just haven't heard any opinions from a camaro/firebird owner).

If anybody runs a DS made by shaftmasters.com please post your experience.

                Cheers

                  Haha, ohhh my bad.

Roger, why are you looking to buy a brand new one? Ls1 aluminum driveshafts are a VERY common mod with Lt1 cars. And they can usually be had for right around $100

I broke my stock LS1 driveshaft launching at 2500rpm on drag radials and it looked very similar to the above pictures. The stock ds is probably safe for the street but I wouldnt use one if you plan on making a few passes at the strip. I was once told by an old wise man that aluminum is for beer cans...not driveshafts!!! I now run a heavy steel driveshaft rated to more horsepower than I will ever have.

I would shop around locally. I had one made locally and it was cheaper than any mail order place.

I'll like to play it safe with a new DS that comes with new u-joints and totally balanced. I've tried locally, and they are asking 60 bucks only for balancing the stock steel DS I currently have...
I only wish to spend money on this subject once.
