  • Looking For Someone To Work On My '96 Z28

    Hello,

Not sure if this is the right section of the forum but I'll give it a shot. Last weekend I purchased a '96 Camaro Z28 convertible for my wife and I to enjoy during the summer months. We're younger and we want to have a little fun before we settle down and have kids. The previous owner(s) have kept no maintenance records so I pretty much want to do everything maintenance wise, as well as replace some gaskets that are leaking (intake, valve cover, oil pan (?), trans pan) since the car has been sitting awhile. I do have some car knowledge, have no problem changing my own oil and such, just a little timid/hesitant around new cars to me and this is my first GM.

What I'm looking for is someone, in West Michigan area (I'm in Jenison), who is very comfortable/knowledgeable with LT1's that is willing to tackle some of these projects that I don't think I can do. I will gladly pay whoever wants to help me out and I would prefer to watch/learn, even assist, while the work is being done. I'm looking for someone who will treat our car as they do their own, as we've worked long and hard to be able to afford this car. Our previous "fun" car was a Contour SVT and I had an unemployed person, that was very knowledgeable about those cars, do the things that I couldn't and it just worked out so well.

Although I'd prefer to work with an individual, if anyone has any recommendations for good shops near the Grand Rapids, Michigan area, please let me know. I have no problem traveling a half hour-45 minutes for a reputable LT1 shop.

Thanks and I look forward to enjoying and learning more about these cars.

The car is covered in dust from the previous owner, in & out, so I've still got a lot of detailing before I'll be comfortable driving it anyways. I did an oil change this past weekend to synthetic and that opened up all the leaks, haha. This car has been sitting long enough to where I think a lot of the seals have dried out. At this point I haven't drivin it enough to figure out how fast the leak(s) are so timing is up in the air really, no rush at this point. I literally have a list of 15+ things that I want to do to the car as far as maintenance/fixing wise. It sounds like you're pretty busy, but let me know.

              Hey Troy,
              Got your PM
I can help but right now I'm booked up for at least 3 weeks.
I can do everything you want but I have to get a few other cars done that are ahead of you.

I can stop out during the week and take a look if you would like?

It's not that bad, just like things nice and want the piece of mind that I know whats been done to my car and what's in it. I'll keep you in mind but I'm hoping I don't have to wait that long. Good luck with classes.
