  • changing a rear main?? what tool?

well got my new motor in and had a very healthy oil leak from the rear main, so pulled the tranny yesterday to find alot of oil, so pulled the old rear main(brand new) and didn't see anything wrong but guess it could be something defective from felpro, anyways i do not want to do this job again, so how do you replace the rear main correctly? does anyone know where i can find the installer tool? any advice would be appreciated, i need to get this done but want to do it right. thanks guys!

Someone JUST has a thread on getting bad felpro gaskets. I can't remember who though. Maybe they are starting out have them made in China or something.

i think your thinking of me, lol i had one about my waterpump seal, but it ended up not being the gasket, there just very picky and tricky to put in or it will slightly rip and leak.. but this seal i found alittle dimple in the seal, so i will be calling felpro tomorrow and see if they will hook me up with another, because this is a bad job.

I have a trick to doing them, but not really a tool. Heres what I do, lol. I use a piece of plastic from a blister pack packaging. Something like packaging from a holley bowl or a childrens toy. As you position the seal into place slide the blister pack in between the crank and the seal. Slide the blister pack around the seal as you tap it into place because its a double lip seal and that will keep the lips from flipping. That might be what happened when you originally installed it. Hope this helps, Eric L
