  • I think opti crapped out!

I have been getting an occasional misfire approx. 1800-2200 rpms. I parked it 2 weeks ago and today decided to take her for a spin. I put 60 miles on with no problems. I then decided to go for a ride 20min away I got there and the misfire came back. After I got there I noticed my idle kept going up and down. I left to come home and made it 4 miles before it staled on the side of the road. It started and stalled 2x. Going by GMhightechperformance.com's article about diagnosing a bad opti. I have most all of the symptoms. Can someone point me to a how-to for changing the damn thing or give me some options and ideas for a cheap source to repair this little issue.

    Thanx in advance,

    Chris

Is it throwing any codes. Ive usually seen them throw a hi res or low res code when the opti goes bad. Maybe someone will chime in. But I will tell you that I wouldnt buy anything other than a genuine GM opti. A lot of us went through, THEPARTSLADY, i think is her name on Ebay. Good luck, Eric L

I am thinking of holding off on trailering it home until the rain stops. Then I will pull the codes probably next weekend.

yeah i would say that its your opti, and i bought mine through thepartsladi also. got a brand new delphi opti for 250, and for changing i think shbox.com has some stuff about how to change it, but basically you have to pull the water pump off, i took my radiator and fans out, but i think you can get by with just taking off the fans or just one, then have to pull off the balancer but not the hub, and make sure the cam is in the 9 o'clock position i believe and put the new one in! lol there is more to it but thats just a quick overview of it. just do some searching and should find all the answers you need.

Kyles car is a 1993, and I believe the Opti has a differant drive. Eric L
