  • Cleaning up the '94 Formula.

I actually had two days off this weekend so I started doing some spray can detailing on my wife's '94 Formula. Got out to the shop early Saturday morning and pulled the rims off and set the car up on jack stands. My wife came out and helped with the cleaning. She ran the wire wheel in the drill and knocked off most of the major crud and loose dirt.

She has never done stuff like this before and she impressed me with her hard work. I ran another wire wheel in the die grinder to get into the nooks and crannies.
After that I went over everything thing with a wire brush and blew it all off with air. I sprayed everything with cheap gloss black enamel and it is hard to describe the change. Even my wife said wow. It does make a difference.

She wanted to paint the calipers red so we did that and, even though I think leaving everything black would have been better, she likes it.

The 16 inch rims had NEVER been cleaned on the inside. I knew a lot of the chrome was peeling from when I first cleaned them up last fall. Once I got them off I decided to hit the insides with the wire wheel to remove the peeling chrome and clean up the heavy oxidation.
I was about 1 1/2 hrs cleaning up all four rims. They were a mess. They looked much better after the cleaning but all of the peel spots really lookd bad.

I decided to paint the inside of each rim black to hide all of the damage.

Looks much better and once they are on the car I think they'll look great.

This was a long post, thanks for reading.

Looks good! I have the calipers painted black on my car and it keeps it simple and clean. Truthfully you can't even tell but you don't have stare at the greyish/brownish stock calipers.

Didn't realize you could paint rotors like that. Looks awesome!

Yea I never knew you could paint rotors either? Wouldnt it just chip and come off after they get heated up pretty good?

What you see on the rotors is just a little overspray from the rattle can. It will be gone as soon as she drives the car and steps on the brakes a couple of times. The pads will burn it all off and they will be shiney cast iron once again.

As long as it doesn't load the pads up, that should work fine.

It won't. I've done it man times. It saves a ton of time painting the hat of the rotor over taping it all off.

Yeah, I did the same thing on both of my Camaros. It works great. Like was stated by Tom, it leaves a perfect clean off spot from the pads and keeps the rest of the rotor where the pad dosent touch from rusting. Looks great, awsome job. Eric L
