The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. I know a lot of people in this forum probably don't care about this aspect of their vehicle's performance, but I was just curious how everyone does on gas mileage. My previous car was a four cylinder and I was stunned when I had no drop off in mpg when I made the move to the Firebird.
Sounds about right for an fbody. Gotta remember the 3800 II is a great motor. Did I ever tell you I thought about doing a turbo diesel in my bird so I could run corn oil and biodiesal? Cool idea, especially a diesel V8 is better than a non diesel V6 right?

i get about 15-19 city depending on how heavy my foot is...generally about 24-27 on the highway...if i had an auto it would probably be way worse...switching up the gears certainly helped in the city!

A diesel would get astounding mileage. And with the biodiesel it would be environmentally friendly. If you did that, I would be amazed.

I seem to get between 16-18 mpg city with my car... and i put my foot down a good four times per tank usually. However when im not driving spiritedly I religously skip shift 1>3>5>6 and that seems to help. I used to average about 15.5 city before I put the headers on. as for highway ive done two highway trips (that i measured mpg). first time i did 29.8 mpg with stock manifolds and my cutout closed. second time i did 27.9 with the headers and my cutout open. this weekend i am going to find out if it does better with the cutout closed. In conclusion the headers gave me roughly a 2mpg city increase and an equivalent loss on the highway... unless i find out the cutout was the culprit.
I have no clue what I get and don't care. It's only going to get worse. I might be able to pull off 20 if I drive really light footed. But then driving is no fun. First time I got it out I got like 16. That was before a tune up, and stepping on it occasionaly. But like Matt said it depends how heavy your foot is.

I get like 10-17 mpg in my IROC, but I get 40 MPG in my Audi and only lose .5 seconds in the quarter while I'm at it

negative 10 for me... when you hit thew gas the car just laughs as the gauge goes down.. its not to bad though... worse then the 355 prob like 10-15 range

That is, well, ridiculous. I don't know really how well that would do on gas mileage compared to a 3.8. That's a big diesel. But you could still use the biodiesel.
The WORST I ever got was 17mpg and that was lead footing it and drag racing at the track doing 5K RPM launches. Normal driving to and from work and just around I get 21-24 depending how often I hot rod it(which is most of the time) Best highway with it was 27mpg normally it's 25-26 but I don't often do a lot of just highway driving.
