  • LT1 cam instal question

Ok so this is probably a dumb question but I was looking at my pix back when I did my 385 build and I was wondering...other than the retaining plate and the cam bearings is there really nothing else? Like no bearings being the retainer or behind the cam against the freeze plug? I just thought that was a little weird and just wanted to make sure I wasn't either crazy or just all f'ed up...

what does hold the cam is the front retainer plate. I believe you are confused about the location of the freeze plug in the rear as there is no coolant flow around the bearings just oil.

oh i know theres no coolant there but that hole in the back still needs a 1-1/8 plug so i just figured id call it a freeze plug..
i just wanted to make sure that there wasnt supposed to be a bearing or something on either side of that plate that i didnt notice, or one between the cam and that plug in the back
