  • 95 Z28 No Start.

I got a Z28 95 6speed 95K miles on Friday, started fine. Saturday it was raining all day and I went outside and the car won't start. I think its a wet opti. Today its raining again, still no start.

Tell me its a wet opti and it just needs to dry. Thanks

did you drive through any puddles that may have splashed up? being parked out in the rain shouldnt have done anyhting unless the hood was left open, or you were spraying the engine down with a hose (a big no-no with these cars)

but there isnt much else it could be - everything is like new on that car. do you hear the fuel pump priming when its keyed on?

Yeah listen for the 3 secound prime when the key is first turned on. If you cant hear it, Find the fuel pump relay, and switch it with another relay. And listen again for the fuel pump prime. If still nothing. you got a fuel pump problem. If you do hear the fuel pump or get it to work, check for spark.

Yes he checked all of the fuses and can hear the fuel pump. The fuel pump is brand new as well. The ENTIRE ignition system is new - opti, plugs, wires, coil

Is there spark at the plug? Check that first. Eric L

yes there is spark at the plug. He already checked that. That is good news, because if the OPTI was actually bad it wouldnt send any spark at all

Glad to see you and the car still on the site. You bought one hell of a nice car.

                Nate is right.

Just dont mess wiht the car anymore until you have a dry and sunny day. If you are messing with it in this crappy weather its gonna make it worse. Once we get a sunny day leave the hood open in the sunshine.

another thing you CAN do but you have to be careful with...

There is a vent line for the opti that runs into the intake:

you can detach this and CAREFULLY use a vacuum to try to pull air through the opti and dry it out. vacuum air gently through it do NOT blow into it.

Tomorrow is supposed to be nice. Let it sit outside all day and try to start it tomorrow night.

And also, make sure that line is not plugged. Good luck, Eric L

The rain isn't going to cause it not to start to start. The car was driven year round before you, and had no problem starting in torrential downpours/ snow/ fog /whatever

Yeah its a nice car. Sorry been feeling kinda crappy thats why I haven't replied. I had the hood popped the hood probably like 5 times Friday night it wasn't raining. I came home around 12 O'clock wasn't raining yet. Shut the car off went inside. Got up around 10 and it was raining, decently. Went outside to run to the store tried to start and no go.

Yeah my plan was to when I get off work tomorrow at 4:30 come pop the hood and let it sit till the sun goes down and then try to start her. Still haven't come up with a name for her yet.

Okay, I'll ask again. Why would the opti be wet? Even if you had the hood completely open there is no way it should have gotten wet enough to cause any issues. Only way you could harm it would be to spray it directly with water. You didn't go thru a carwash did you?
