    I have no idea. My buddy has like 7-8 of the older red tops and has had no issues either.. All I know is mine were all junk....

      Not sure if the problem but believe "dry cell" type battery requires different charger not suppossed to use your old "wet cell" battery charger.But also could be like everything else and nothing is made like it used to ( I always say I can remember when those 12 year olds over in china used to take pride in their work lol) not to say optimas are made there but you can get the idea.I'm getting my new battery today which will be relocated (not into rear)will post pics when done,started doing metal work and hope the 17 pound battery will work.

        Optima's are built by Johnson Controls Inc. right here in the USA Along with Interstates, Motorcrafts, Powervolts ...
        I work for Interstate and even the people here say that the Red Tops aren't all their made out to be.
