  • 2001 Camaro Clutch Info.

I am going to replace the clutch in my 2001 SS. The questions I have are should I upgrade the clutch kit to a stage 2 (just a mild upgrade) or just keep it stock? My plans with car is to basically keep it stock with just a few power upgrades nothing big.
Second) Is does anybody know of a good brand (or website) that wont break the bank since I am still unemployed it needs to be done on a budget.
Third) Is how much would it cost for a shop to machine my flywheel because if I can save on just having the flywheel machined and not buying a new one would be great.

Any information would be greatly appreciated

For the money I would upgrade to a LS7 clutch. For a good brand name clutch kit your in the $400 price range. For an extra 60 bucks you can get a LS7 clutch kit through Scoggin Dickey that includes the flywheel. I think it would be a good match for what your looking for.

        Aren't the LS7 clutches heavier?

Im using the LS7 clutch and love it. It feels like a stock clutch but holds very well....and the price is great.

How much is the LS7 clutch anyway? I was thinking about going with a centerforce dual friction (around $600 including throwout bearing, I think) when my clutch goes, and I know it will. It might be overkill for my current application though. If the LS7 clutch is designed to hold 450 horse in the Corvette it should do just fine though.

On a real budget you can't beat an LS7 clutch set up. For a bit more the Monster clutches are very nice and seem to be holding up very well.

Thanks for all the information!!!! I did some price research and while monster seems the best you will also be paying for it. It sucks on how that always works lol, but they are out of my price range. The main question I have is that "Are there any modifications that needs to be done such as the hydraulics system?" or is it that I just buy the LS7 clutch kit with flywheel and bearings, install, then drive? I hope its that easy.

I would replace the master cylinder. As far as I know ours are pretty crappy.

All `01 up F-bodies are supposed to have upgraded Hydraulics and will work with the LS7.
Depending on the mileage and condition replacing both the master and the slave cylinders is never a bad idea though.
I'm personally looking at the LS7 setup with a new master and slave but I also have 136K on my original clutch but until it gives out I'm leaving it.

I would like to upgrade the master and slave cylinders but it would definitely break the bank ( I wish I could get a sponsorship lol). Thanks again for all the information.

you have the newer stuff already. if you cant afford both get a new slave. the master doesnt require the trans to be lowered.
just make sure you dont get the cheaper plastic center slave. On the gm stuff the pilot rides on alum. some have a plastic sleave
