  • Refinishing my valvecovers

My centerbolts came in yesterday! They came off of a 5.3l truck ls1 so I hope they're the same, but I already started to polish them. First step is 320 grit wetsanding. Mind you, I'm working out of a dorm room and using a water bottle for water because I don't have a spray bottle. I think this project might go a little slow because I've got homework and other stuff to deal with, but here's after one hour:

    Not the same. Sorry

Very close though, your going to have to play with the pcv stuff. Ill see if I can get you some pictures of how I did my setup, much easier than the crappy ls1 factory setup, should consume less oil aswell.

Heck I'll just pop a breather filter on there if I have to, the only thing I'm really concerned about is clearing the rockers.

In that aspect they're the same, its just the outlets for the pcv stuff. The way I did it is SUPER simple, cheap, and most of the time stops alot of the oil consumption.

I wouldn't even bother polishing them unless your gonna put a coat of clear on them after, its way too much to maintain on a DD car IMO.

Don't fret man. You don't DD your car like some. I know you DD it in the summer but being at college you only drive it weekends. Not like me and put 10k a year on it.

Yeah last year I only put 4k on it, from late April going until late October. Anyways, I got 'em sanded to 800 grit and realize I need my dremel to really do the polishing...or some finer sandpaper. Looking pretty good so far though I still need to sand more to take care of pitting.

After hours of sanding and wetsanding today, I realized the fingers on my right hand were stinging, slightly. I paused for a while to look at my hand and realized that it was bleeding. I have worn some of the skin off of my middle and ring finger, so I can't finish tonight.
