  • Speaker Popping?

About 2 weeks ago my rear sailpanel speaker started popping when I turn my parking lights or my headlights on. At first it was only when I turned them on, and then tonight when I was driving home I thought I could hear it popping when I was hitting bumps, but that could have been something else in the interior, we all know how fbody interiors are, lol. I have a COMPLETELY stock bose stereo system in there, and I haven't taken anything apart lately. Any ideas?

Im thinking one of your speaker wire's leading to the speaker is grounding out somewhere could most likely be in the dash by the headlight switch or just under the carpet if i was you i would just follow the wire from the speaker to the radio.

How does a Opti have to do with anything, my passenger side speaker used to pop on my bose, turned out some water got it awhile back, and slowly corroded it, so i replaced it.

I ended up just running leads to a small boom box and it fixed my problem with them and it seems to have better performance.

Sounds like you're shorting out somewhere, maybe in the wiring, or in the speaker.

                      well thats obviously the answer...
i would have to say either a wire is loose that will create that problem, a ground issue, amp is going bad, or headunit is sending a bad signal to the amp. there is a lot of stuff with electronics that can go bad. i would try to eliminate the speaker by going and switching it out with a working one. i really doubt a pop is from speaker. when speakers go they melt the voice coil or start to sound really bad.
hope this helps. any questions PM me. been working with home and car audio for over 5 years now and hit it strong

I'll have to call my dad tomorrow and get his opinion. He did car stereo for about 30 years he should definitely have some form of idea of what would be causing this.

The radio or speaker is getting RF interference from something. Check grounds and other connections. If necessary install an inline capacitor to the power feed of the radio or amp.

you should just sell the car to me for like a grand and that will not only take care of your problem, but give you a grand in your pocket

My dad said if the popping noise is coming from one speaker, to disconnect that speaker and see if the popping noise goes away. If it does, then 99% of the time, that means that you have a speaker going bad. Now, if it does it in all the speakers, or still does it when you take the one speaker out, he thinks it'll be the headunit (he dealt with that a lot before). The wiring shouldn't be an issue, since you've never taken it apart before, and generally factory harnesses don't go bad.
