  • Car Keeps Stalling

Ok so i got my car back from the body shop a couple weeks ago. Yes new hood looks pimp. But anyways on my way home from the body shop about 20 mins later my car stalled out when i stopped at a light. And it took about 3 or 4 tries to get it started again and it kept stalling everytime i stopped. So i thought it might have been the fuel filter. So i had that changed and that was fine for 2 days and i drove to my school twice the one day with no problems even on the expressway, but on the 3rd trip, it stalled again. And its doing it again, I have no idea where to start troubleshooting anymore. The Pump is a Walbro pump that was installed 7 months ago, and had no problems like this before the car was in the shop for 2 weeks. I did take it to my mechanic after i got it to start stalling and he hooked up some fuel pressure gauge thing and when i started the car it would shoot to 30 psi then jus fall down to 7psi. He said that the new filter might already be clogged and to change it. Other people are saying thats impossible to clog in 2 days.

Maybe a fuel system treatment? You can get the gas additive for under $5 or Sears does this new thing where they have a 3 step process that has got to be good for them to have their techs do to your car nationwide!

Yea my machanic wanted me to get a cheaper brand filter than Fram. I guess to see if more stuff would go thru the filter? I dunno why he would want it to do that tho.

I wouldn't buy anything but a fram filter. I would change the fuel filter one more time before I started tearing into the pump and looking at other things, they're cheap.

You can easily check and see if it's your fuel pump. Turn the key on, but not all the way. You should hear the pump priming. Then go to the driver side fuel rail and push in the shredder valve. If no fuel comes out it's the pump. Try this more than once.

Also I've gone through three Walbro's, they don't like it @ all when you run the car lower than a 1/4 tank on gas. Just my .02.

Lastly, I'd stay away from Fram filters in general, lots of goo info on LS1tech stating how crappy there filters are. Hope this helps, Mike

yeah low pressure is kinda hard to get outta a pump 9 times outta 10 a pump eaither works or doesnt... i havent had many just lag.... you could have had a prankster put some shit in your tank.... i say take the filter off flush the whole tank out and then see where you are form there... you never know not worth risking... a little sugar salt... or even water "aka" piss lol can really do a number on your motor

This one's probably up to personal preference, I've been running them for years since I started driving (14 years ago) and never had a filter problem with Fram's filters. Oil, air, or fuel (granted I run K&N air filters now). So based on my experience I'll continue to run them till I have major problems with them. That's just my opinion and preference. Just out of curiosity what do you recommend then Mike?

I'm running Fram Air & Oil filter on my car right now. I like them alot. Stay away from Deustch (or however you spell it) fuel filter. I had one fall apart like 2 hours after installing it, that was on my carb. Their fuel injection filters might be difference but i doubt it. Autozone pieces of shit are what they are. I hate autozone now. Last stuff I bought their was shitty.

If you like them, then keep running them. They have a cardboard filter that has been known to break apart and cause major issue's with clogging the pump. I know a guy that spun a rod bearing due to this, however not to say it's gonna happen to you. I would recconmend using a Moble 1 or AC Delco filter. Just my .02. Mike

Damn 14 years ago I didn't know Fram has been around that long? Man you're old. LOL

I have a Deutsch fuel filter installed on my Camaro. For some strange reason I can't find any fuel filter that day except for the last filter within 15 miles of me, which is Eeutsch. It seems to work okay. Better than the 10 year old AC Delco (haha) it had on it. But their filters are cheap, so I would probably replace it in 12 months instead of 24 months/20,000 miles like they recommend.

LT1 studdering after taking sharp turn

So I made a sharp turn to day and went to go accelerate and It didn't go anywhere, I look at my TACH and it's at zero. I hit the gas about 3 seconds later and it pops back up and drives fine. Did it again coming home and it did the same thing, went down to zero while still running and then slowly came back up. NOW I went down my street did a quick jerk of the wheel and did it. This time it kept stumbling and stumbling. Sounded like it was running on one cylinder. I drove it three blocks back to the front of my house. When I gave it gas it woudn't do anything except try to die. So I idled it home basically just drawing out a little bit.
I let it cool, came back out, it started up and ran fine.
NOw in the process of writing this I had a neighbor scan it for me. This is what I got.

                        HELP!
I'm thinking O2 sensor but that doesn't explain why it craps out only on sharp turns!

Well I guess maybe I'll have to investigate it, never heard anything bad about them. Just was curious. I didn't know Mobil 1 made an oil filter.

Thanks for pointing that out and reminding me, I know I'm old!!!! LOL.

ok well changed the oil filter today, just was driving car around to try to make it stall and well when i parked it in the garage i just let it run till it stalled out which after about 1 minute exactly it did just that. I mean wtf is going on? Why would it take 20 mins of driving or 1 expressway drive to make this thing act like this, and then after a night of rest it will start up and drive like nothings wrong until the 20 mins of driving is up again. Obviously not the fuel filter, right now with it stallin, the Pump still turns on when i turn the key to the on position.

I am gonna go out on a limb and say it's your O2 sensors. The reason that it took 20 miutes to stall out is because that's when it went into closed loop and the A/F was being logged in the CPU. I would suggest changing the O2's and it should be fine.
