  • Spedometer

When i driving down the street my spedometer works when it wants to. It turns on and off, and seems to work when the car is warm. So my question is where do I start to try to fix the problem.

Is it the 1993 or the 1996? I'd start with the VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor.

That's what I was afraid you were going to say (that it's the 93)

The 93 has a 700r4 compared to the 4L60e... as I understand it, they're the same transmission just one is electronically controlled and the 700r4 is not. THAT SAID... if it does have the VSS it would be towards the tailshaft of the transmission.

Edit, forgot they're gear driven speedometers for 700r4.

The site that I found this pic on said that the picture was without the shift lever or the "speedometer drive" installed so I think here's your culprit - the round area in the tailshaft:

If it a cable drive look for the cable and unscrew it and check the end of the cable and gear. gear is probably stripped. or almost stripped.
