  • 1st time with MT ET Street Radials

This weekend I am going to martin and running my car for the first time on MT ET Street radials. I have always ran on street tires and so I would go around the water box, do a quick burnout to clean them and then line up.

So with the DRs, do I back into the water box and do my burnout there and then walk it out or do I avoid the water still?

Also I am running them on salad shooters and thinking about starting the tire pressure at 22psi, is this a good spot to start or will I still be high in psi?

    Help a newb out

Going into the water or not is your preference but in reality there isn't a need to and typically you want to stay out with a radial tire because they can trap and hold water and bring it up to the line in a worst case senario. I run the same tires and have never had this happen but as I mentioned there is no need unless you have trouble turning them over. I like to start at around 21psi on mine so that should be just fine, if the car spin after the first few runs then air down a couple until it hooks, don't go below 16 or so though. As for the burnout a good 4-5 seconds or until you see smoke should be fine and then roll out of it. Good luck and get lots of pics and video.

won't be able to get the pics unless my dad takes my brother's TA out to run it and I can have him video it. Otherwise I will be alone there.

Thanks for the tips so far

Drive around the water box and then back into it until the rear tires are in. Do a quick spin to coat the rear tires in water. Pull ahead a few feet, and lite em up. DON'T do a dry hop!!

When I ran with street tires, I'd just go around the water, hit it to warm them up a little, then stage. With it being colder, I'd probably do the 4 second thing though. In the heat of summer, just a quick go-round with no water suffices.

actually even with slicks you don't do a burnout in the water. you move the the front of the box and do the burnout where it is just damp.
et street radials do need a burnout and should be wet. They are actually softer than ET drags.

theres drag radials, et streets radials, and slicks. thats y there is a confusion.

et streets look like a slick but have one or 2 treads to make them dot approved. et streets and slicks use the water box.

if its drag radials, avoid the box and light them up.

                      1 sec il get pictures

Who said to do a burnout in the water?

I always thought you just backed into the water, got 'em wet, then moved up a bit, out of the water and lit 'em up...

If they're DRs, stay out of the water...

ET Street Radials. As Larry said above, these tires hook much better with a burnout, water or not is up to you.. The pic in my sig is on ET Streets at Stanton..

that last pic is a ET street radial. a ET drag radial is a full slick
the street radial is SOFT. they are the tires everyone is going 6-7 on. DO you see them backing in the water? if you had skinny's you would drive through the water with this tire. a nitto or something thats not really a race compound should stay awsy from water.
don't try to do a dry burnout with this tire. it will break or wheelhop and break.
