  • Start problem

    Hi All,
Need some help with this.My 95 Z28 will not start on the first attempt. You turn the key the security light goes out after five seconds, you can here the fuel pump run. But the starter will not turn over the engine. After several repeated atempts. It will turn over and start. It's like the ground is not being made initially to the starter. After the engine is warmed up it's starts normally.Any idea on where to look(toubleshoot).
    Thanks,
    Rick Neibert

Had the same problem this morning - couldn't get my car to start. For me, it's usually the battery that doesn't have enough juice to get that initial kick for the starter.

In my case the battery is relatively new replaced the old one this past spring. The alternator is new as well. It's only a month old both check out okay. Plenty of juice.

There are several grounds in the engine bay:

Front of block, drivers side also has a braided ground strap to frame
Bottom Passenger in by the engine mount
        Battery connection
One on each side of the Radiator support on top

I think that covers all of them?
Check each one for corrosion or a loose connection for starters.

Maybe the wire to the ignition cylinder is getting broken.

Perhaps it could be within your ignition cylinder. I used to start the car, then let the cylinder snap back when started and it led to the cylinder itself smoking once. She had troubles starting for a while, then came the puff of smoke one night.

Thanks, I'm thinking it's something in that circuit. Will let everyone what the cure is.
