  • headlight help!

i have a 1998 pontiac trans am and just the other day my headlights started to act up. this is what it is doing:

if i push lock or unlock on my key fob the headlights open and close.

now when i turn the parking lights on the headlight door's open up.

when the headlight doors close it makes a funny noise for about 45 seconds

any one know what my problem could be? or anyone else have this happen???
    thanks,
    sigpic

The funny noise when they close sounds like the stop is worn out, your hearing the gears grind until the motor overheats. Time to buy a new motor.

As for them popping open at weird times, not sure. Is that programable? Check your owners manual, might be a setting. Did you disconnect the battery recently?

the grinding from the light going up for 45 what ever seconds is more than likely the gear has worn out i had the same problem i would replace the gear for like 10-15 bucks and it will fix the grinding and the lights from coming up when you turn on your parking lights.... for the weird thing with the lights coming up when you unlock or lock i dont not know first try the gear then go from there..... good luck!!!!

It sounds close to when one of my motors went bad. I'd hit the unlock and the headlights would go up and down and act stupid on me. I replaced the motor on one of them and bam, no more problems.

alot of people replace the gears in the motor with brass gears.
My 94 formula somehow got a short or something and the knob that controls to dimness of the dash and the dome light would heat up and it actually melted the inside of the knob. Dunno what that was all about. alot of people have troubles with the motorized headlights on the fourth gens!
