Horsepower is in the heads. If you have the money to do a 383 and do it right then go for it!! But if you send the topend out to A.I. and got a bigger cam to go with it you could make some serious power on a stock shortblock.
Just rebuild the motor with new bearing, rings, and ARP rod bolts. Get everything checked by a QUALITY machine shop. Have them balance the rotating assembly again, it can go a looong way.
This is just my opinion on what I would do. Good luck with your build

how do you like them? but i believe it was adam green that told me to talk to you about a cam for my car because i am not going to use the lt4 hot cam i want a better one so i have been looking up cams and i see there are 3 basically people use cc503,cc306 and gm847 what one do you recomend or another one? i have been leaning twards gm847 but its a pretty radical cam and even with my lt4 heads i dont know if that would be good enough it might actually hurt me power wise???Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View Postadvancedinduction.com

I've heard not to go bigger than 190cc intake runners for a sbc but it's all about torque and how well your motor will breathe in the upper revs. With 200cc runners you might lose bottom-end due to less velocity but it will flow better at the top. Then again if you put a more torquey gear in the rearend you could get away with it.
I think it'd be fine with 200cc

all depends what you want. My cam is considerably smaller than an 847 but probably doesnt run all that much slower. ive got the 226/234 and my car really pulls from 2500 RPM up... whereas bigger cams are much more peaky. for a while i thought i wanted bigger but the midrange power really makes the car fun to drive.
I ran a best of 12.96 @ 112 this weekend but my fuel pump was dying and i actually lost power momentarily on that run... let alone the fact that my tune is a blind guess until i get a wideband.
